Calvin H. Wheelock

(Kent City) Calvin H. Wheelock, age 84, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2006 at his home with his family at his side. He was born on August 15, 1922 in Grand Traverse County to Hector C. and Hattie M. (Burkett) Wheelock. He was an Army Veteran of WWII and served in the South Pacific for three years with the 225th Field Artillery on the island of Saipan, Tinian, Leyte, and Okinawa. He was employed at Light Metals Co. in Grand Rapids for 30 years as a Buffer/Polisher. He retired on January 1, 1980. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Michael Scott Wheelock, six brothers, and two sisters. On September 1, 1942 he married Dorothy L. Perry, who survives along with his sons, Dennis C. Wheelock of Las Vegas, NV, Michael L. and Marilyn Wheelock of Kent City, MI, James B. and Robin Wheelock of Seattle, WA; Gary L. and Claudia Wheelock of Redondo Beach, CA; daughter, Kathryn L. and Donald Poling of Kent City, MI; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Julia Claggett of Ocala, FL; sister-in-law, Lorraine Wheelock of Traverse City, MI; brother-in-law, Ralph and Rose Perry of Green Bay, WI; sister-in-law, Mildred Perry Lanagan of Jackson, MI; several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, December 1, 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Connie Hull and Rev. Joey Kretoski officiating. Friends may meet the family at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Friday one hour prior to the service. Interment in Chubbuck Cemetery, Kent City, MI.
