On June 5, Betty Ann Marcusse (Garrison) passed away at Boulder Creek Assisted Living. She was 96 years old and a long-time member of Second Congregational Church. Betty was born in Wheaton, IL and as a young child moved to Ganges, MI. After graduating from Fennville High School in 1945, she learned to fly a Cessna aircraft and got a job crop dusting blueberry fields near her home. She moved to Grand Rapids and graduated from Grand Rapids Beauty School in 1948. During that time, she worked at the Old Kent Theatre where she met the love of her life, John. They married in 1949, started their family and were married for 63 years until John’s passing in 2012. Betty worked as a beautician for many years, was a member of the Second Church choir for over 20 years and participated in the Mr. and Mrs. Friendship Club and Advance Circle. She enjoyed Kelsey St. garage sales with her special neighbors, gardening, walking, and puzzles. Betty was a wonderful cook, created exceptional baked goods, and kept her home meticulously clean. In her later years, she was most happy and content watching Tigers baseball – win or lose! She was preceded in death by her husband, John Marcusse and her sisters and their husbands, Jean (Garrison) and Bob McKee, Sandra (Hirner) and Clare Bale, Sylvia (Hirner) and Don Scurio. Betty is survived by her children, John & Pam (Klingaman) Marcusse, Linda (Marcusse) Van Wyk & Peter Kleis, David & Rosemary (Waltman) Marcusse. Grandchildren: Scott & Megan (Niedzwiecki) Marcusse, Dr. Christine (Van Wyk) & Jamie Guevara, Daniel & Alisha (Ziel) Van Wyk, Melissa Marcusse, Lindsey (Van Wyk) Rodriguez, Amy Marcusse, Nicole (Marcusse) & Josh Watson. Also, numerous great and great, great grandchildren. The family will receive visitors on Wednesday June 12, 10-11am at Second Congregational Church, 525 Cheshire Dr. NE. A funeral ceremony will be held following visitation at 11am, also at Second Congregational Church. Interment will be at Fairplains Cemetery. Special thank you to the entire staff of Boulder Creek Assisted Living and CorsoCare Hospice for the love and care provided. Memorial contributions may be given to CorsoCare Hospice.
