Bernard “Bernie” Evey, 99, of Lansing, passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. He was born on May 14, 1927, in Sumner, Michigan, the son of Walter and Opal (Forquer) Evey. On November 10, 1951, Bernie was united in marriage to his beloved wife, Joan “Skip” (Dart) Evey in Lansing, Michigan. Together, they shared 75 years of marriage and a lifetime of memories.

Bernie proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army from 1945 to 1947.

For 35 years, Bernie owned and operated Wolverine Television Service in Lansing, retiring in 1985. His lifelong love of electronics was evident in both his work and his everyday life. He enjoyed the challenge of fixing things and was always ready to take on a project. Bernie was a true “do-it-all” kind of person with a can-do attitude. If something needed to be fixed, he would find a way to make it work.

Bernie also had a lifelong love of baseball. He played for Crystal High School and later for the Sumner City team. He remained an enthusiastic fan of the Detroit Tigers throughout the years.

Above all, Bernie loved his family. He cherished family gatherings, holidays, and every opportunity to be together with those he loved. His family will remember him for his willingness to help and the many ways he showed his love and care for them.

Bernie is survived by his beloved wife of 75 years, Joan Evey; his children, Laurence (MaryLyn) Evey and Gordon (Cindy) Evey; his grandchildren, Ryan (Ashlee) Evey, Owen Evey, Lauren Evey, Holly Evey (Dan McGurren), and Dana (Jacob) Vanator; and one special great-grandchild on the way. He is also survived by his brother, Elmon (Carol) Evey; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Opal Evey; and his siblings, Betty Freed, Dale Evey, and Bethel Jerome.

Private graveside services will be held at Pritchard Cemetery in Elwell, Michigan.

Arrangements are entrusted to Heritage Life Story Funeral Home, Van Strien Creston Chapel, 1833 Plainfield Ave. N.E., Grand Rapids, MI 49505. To leave a memory or share a condolence, please visit www.heritagelifestory.com.
