LEAVENWORTH, Jr., Benjamin (Benn) K.

“To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord”. Aged 91, Benn passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his wife of 67 years, Joanna, and extended family members, August 29, 2018. He was preceded in death by his son, Maj. (US Army Ret.) Benjamin K. Leavenworth III. In addition to Joanna, Benn is survived by children, Maj. (USAR Ret.) William P. (Vita) Leavenworth Sr., Rebecca (Jay) Duff, Melody (Dominic) Scorziello, Renee Benjamin; 9 grandchildren; & 6 great grandchildren. Benn served in the Army of Occupation from 1946-47. Benn was a longtime band and choir director at Swan Valley High School and a faithful member at Family Baptist Church. He was a dedicated teacher, church deacon, and faithful husband & father. A celebration of life will be held at Calvary Church, 707 E. Beltline NE, Grand Rapids Mi 49525 on October 26, 2018 at 11 a.m. Interment with full military honors was held at Fort Custer National Cemetery, September 4, 2018. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the music department, Potter's House School Grand Rapids.
