(FREMONT) Mrs. Barbara Ruth Hager, aged 79, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday evening, January 23, 2007. Barb was born on January 15, 1928 to Edward and Marion (Harkema) Cook in Holland, MI. The family moved to Fremont in 1935. She attended Fremont High School, Calvin College and Blodgett School of Nursing. She married Larry Hager on June 9, 1950 in Fremont. She worked for many years as an RN at Gerber Hospital until retiring in 1974 for health reasons. As a breast cancer survivor, she helped establish the Reach to Recovery Program in Newaygo County. She enjoyed camping, sewing, knitting and gardening. She was a member of Second Christian Reformed Church in Fremont where she was involved in ladies societies. Left to cherish her memory are Larry, her husband of 56 years, and her children, Edward (Mary) of South Riding, VA., Ruthann (Calvin) Hoekema of Hull, IA., Greg (Judy) of Aniak, AK.; a sister, Mary Lou (Len) Wilkins of Grand Rapids; a brother, Paul (Allene) Cook of Fremont; two brothers-in-law, David (Dot) Hager of Jenison and Charles Westra of Grand Rapids; two sisters-in-law, Nancy Deters of Fremont and Pat Hoolsema of Coopersville; nine grandchildren and one great-grandson and many nieces and nephews. A son, Kenneth, preceded her in death. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM on Sunday at the Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home. A celebration of Barb's life will be held at 11 AM on Monday, January 29, 2007 at Second Christian Reformed Church.
