(Rockford) Mr. B. Max Henkel, age 91, passed away Tuesday, September 19, 2006. A native of Howard City, he graduated in 1937 from Michigan State University, where he majored in journalism and played baseball. He played one summer of professional baseball in Kentucky. For most of his business career, he worked for West Michigan Tourist Association in Grand Rapids. He was publications editor for nearly 35 years. He also worked for the United Press news service in Lansing and Detroit, was public relations supervisor of Packard Motor Company, Associate Editor of AAA Motor News Magazine and was a reporter at the Grand Rapids Press. In addition he served as sports publicity director of the University of Arizona, was city hall reporter for the Tucson Daily Citizen and worked in the public relations department of Ford Motor Company. He is survived by his daughter, artist Christine Marcus Stone; grandson, Two Eagles Marcus; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eloise (McBride) Henkel who died in 1987, and his sister-in-law, Mrs. Lennabell Reed and her husband, John Reed. He was blessed with a loving family and caring friends. The service for Mr. Henkel will be Saturday afternoon at 1:00 o'clock in Rockford Cemetery. Military Honors will be under the auspices of the Kent County Veterans Honor Guard.
