Life Story / Obituary
Anthony David Kooienga, age 20, was called home to Heaven on October 4, 2026. He was born on December 11, 2005, and though his time here on Earth was far too short, Anthony touched the lives of so many with his big smile, contagious laugh, and quick wit.
Anthony was a gift to everyone who knew him. He was always finding ways to make those around him smile and laugh. His presence brought joy to others, and the love he shared will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His family finds comfort in the belief that Anthony learned all he needed during his time here on Earth and is now an Angel in Heaven, watching over those he loved and using the lessons he learned to help others.
Anthony is survived by his mother, Tammie Kooienga; his brother, Joshua Kooienga; his aunts, Wendy Kooienga and Miranda Thomas; his grandparents, Lloyd and Vicky Kooienga and Jan and Paul Ouendag; and many cousins whom he loved dearly. He cherished the time he shared with his love, Anja Kay Guelzow, and treasured the love and support of his second family, the Mayos. His friends and family, both old and new, meant the world to him.
Anthony was preceded in death by his uncle, friend, and honorary father, Dean Austin, whom we are sure greeted him in Heaven with open arms.
A Celebration of Anthony’s Life will be held on Sunday, October 18, 2026, at Orchard Hills Church, 1465 3 Mile Road, Walker, Michigan. Visitation will take place from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., followed by a service from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to stay from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. to share stories, memories, and celebrate the life of a young man who meant so much to so many.
We are honored, privileged, and blessed to have been part of your short life, Anthony. You are loved more than words can express, and you will be missed more than you could ever imagine. Though our hearts ache in your absence, we take comfort in knowing that your love and light will remain with us always.
It is your time to fly and help others now. Until we meet again, may you soar freely in Heaven, forever loved and never forgotten.
