Angeline Lillian Nivala “Angie” of Grand Rapids, age 102 (just shy of 103), passed away peacefully in the early morning Tuesday, April 20, 2021. Angie was born in the Spring of 1918 to the late Fred and Jennie Baker in Grand Rapids, MI. Along with her parents, Angie is preceded in death by her husband Roger, who passed away in 1997, her infant son Billy, granddaughter Ellen Nivala, son-in-law Sal Balistreri as well as by 6 of her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children Richard (Pam) Nivala, John (Sharon Suleta) Nivala, Jean (Jim) Dykhouse, Marguerite DeShane and Mary Nivala Balistreri. Angie is also survived by her 9 grandchildren: David Nivala, Sarah Nivala, Peter (Angie) Thompson Nivala, Rob (Sarah) DeShane, Angie (Mike) Swartz, Christina (Mike Pallas) Balistreri, Julia (Mitchell) Stricker-Balistreri, Chris (Karen) Dykhouse, and Kathy (Tim) Shaffer, many great-grandchildren and brother, Frank Baker. Angie worked hard throughout her life and had been a longtime and dedicated member of Trinity Reformed Church. Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, a private family funeral and graveside service has been scheduled. For those who wish, a memorial contribution to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital (501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105) or to Faith Hospice (2100 Raybrook SE, Suite 300, Grand Rapids, MI 49546) is appreciated.
