To Alice L. Sherwood, there was nothing greater than family. She lived a full and exciting life, viewing each day as a gift to be embraced.

Alice L. Sherwood was born on July 11, 1924 in Grand Rapids, Michigan during a time of peace and joy among many American families. Alice was later joined by sister Audrey. Alice attended Madison Elementary, followed by South High School and she also held down a job at Joppe’s dairy while still in school. Education was important to Alice and upon high school graduation, she took some continuing education classes as well.

After finishing her classes, Alice found employment at a factory which would bring Alice more than just a paycheck; her life went in a new and exciting direction when she was introduced to the brother a coworker. William Sherwood was the delightful man that she met and after time spent dating, they were married on July 8, 1944 while William was still serving his country in the United States Army. The newlyweds settled in Mountain Home, Idaho where William was stationed.

Upon his discharge from the Army, Alice and William made their way back to Grand Rapids where they lived with Alice’s grandmother until the mid 1950’s. Alice and William were also blessed with the births of three children: Helenann, Jack, and Lorrie. After moving out of her grandmother’s home, Alice and William settled onto a farm in Comstock Park where Alice would live for almost 40 years.

Although her marriage ended in divorce in the mid 1980’s, Alice and her sister Audrey continued traveling with their parents who were food vendors at fairs and carnivals, with children in tow! Alice enjoyed her work at KayLynn Bridals so much that she eventually purchased the company and ran it as the Bridal House from her home. She also worked as an LPN doing private duty nursing.

Alice enjoyed collecting china dolls and had over 500 until there was a house fire at her home in Comstock Park, at which time she moved to the Ransom Apartments. Alice suffered a heart attack and was diagnosed with dementia and as a result in 2002, Alice moved to Metron of Forest Hills where she could receive the care that she required. There, she kept the staff on their toes with her feisty personality!

Alice Sherwood had a spunky demeanor and lived her life to its fullest. She found peace and tranquility when she was tending to her rose gardens and she loved traveling with her family as well. Alice will be deeply missed.
