Life Story / Obituary
Selfless, friendly, and inquisitive, Alex Ferrell blessed everyone he met with his bright mind and winning smile. A caring son, fun-loving brother, and friend to many, he lived his life full of optimism. Alex was not afraid of hard work and enjoyed the time he spent with family and friends. On the brink of his adult years, Alex leaves behind many warm memories for his loved ones to cherish forever.
The year 2005 brought about the X Box 360, as well as the popular video-sharing website, YouTube. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was released in theaters, as well as The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Patrick Ferrell and Aimee Johnson welcomed home their newborn son, Alexander Sebastian, on February 16, 2005, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. His birth brought his family much joy and happiness.
Alex lived a typical childhood despite moving around during his early years. The family started in Milan, Michigan, before spending time in Garden City, Kansas, before eventually landing back in Clinton, Michigan, in 2016. As a youngster, Alex loved the outdoors. Anytime he was outside, he could surely be found climbing trees, riding his bike, chasing geese, and finding ways to disrupt the peace among his siblings, Annaliese and Orion. Active and always on the go, joining Cub Scouts was a good fit for him. He and his dad, Patrick, were always bonding over a project or preparing for the annual Pinewood Derby event. During his time in Cub Scouts, Alex fell in love with exploring nature and discovering new things. As a child, one thing Alex never grew fond of was people dressed in character or mascot costumes, including Halloween attire.
Alex was a good student who thrived at Paddock Elementary in Milan, as well as Garden City Public School, before landing at Clinton Middle and High School. Anywhere Alex went, he easily made friends and was loved by many. He was a proud graduate of the Class of 2023, where he excelled in both football and track. Alex was always searching for the next hobby to keep himself engaged. He took a liking to photography and never passed up an invitation to go mini-golfing or hiking. He and his dad loved to spend time fishing together and going on adventures. Alex also never grew out of riding his bike, even into adulthood. Easy-going and a dedicated worker, he enjoyed his time working at Meijer and Panera Bread before he accepted his new role with the United States Postal Service as a carrier. Walking the neighborhoods in any type of weather never bothered him. Dogs were his only job hazard as he greatly feared them! He enjoyed each place he worked and was good at saving his money for future endeavors.
In addition to the importance of family, Alex held a wide variety of special interests. In recent years, he became fascinated with technology. He enjoyed learning how to maneuver a drone and making new materials with his 3D printer. He also fell in love with cooking and spending time perfecting his Cubana sandwich recipe! The sandwiches were always a bit hit, yet took nearly three hours to make! He was also interested in visiting museums and learning about how things worked. When it came to music, he listened to David Bowie, and for entertainment, he liked The Andy Griffith Show and The Sandlot movie. Alex was always looking for new ways to learn and use his imagination.
When he wasn’t involved with a project, he took the time to care for his dad, who suffered from medical issues. Alex wanted nothing more than to help him feel comfortable while making his life meaningful. The two of them would have long conversations about the world and how things became the way they are today. Alex was always interested in the perspectives of others and wanted to glean understanding by listening and sharing wisdom in conversation. Goal-oriented, Alex had his mind set on becoming a licensed charter airplane pilot. He was also close to purchasing his first home, which he wanted to accomplish by the age of twenty-two years. His attention to detail and his ability to set goals for himself matured him well beyond his years.
Sadly, on April 24th, a drunk driver traveling in the wrong direction hit Alex head-on while he was out riding his motorcycle. Devastating and tragic, Alex died as a result of his injuries sustained in the accident. Alex’s life contained a wonderful collection of memories. There was never a dull moment when he was around. Alex loved to see how things were made, how they worked, and most of all, how they made a difference in the world around him. His mind was always spinning with new ideas and new questions. Alex wanted nothing more than for others to be happy. His positive energy and extraordinary personality will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
