Life Story / Obituary
Albert Elton Rohrer was a loving and devoted husband, father, friend, and Christian who lived a life of faith and service for the 93 years God gave him.
Albert was born in Petosky, Michigan where he spent his early childhood. When Albert was six years old, the family moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan. At age ten, Albert made a most significant decision in his life: he accepted Jesus Christ as Savior. From that period and for the rest of his life, Albert became an active member of the church and an eager communicator of his faith.
Albert attended Union High School until the 11th grade and-like many young people growing up during a depressed era-went to work. He took a job with the railroad, where he learned the value of hard work. In his adult years, he was employed by Interstate Motor Freight System as Director of Traffic for 35 years before he retired and moved to Mulberry, Florida.
Albert used his God-given gifts in business and in the church. He loved numbers and made them work in industry and for non-profit organizations. In retirement, Albert spent ten years as business manager at Grand Rapids Baptist College , Parkland Baptist Schools of Saskatchewan, Canada and Spurgeon Baptist Bible College of Lakeland, Florida. As a member of Second Baptist Church for 40 years and Standale Baptist Church for 42 years, Albert held numerous positions at both churches. He was active as deacon board chairman, missionary committee chairman, building committee chairman, Sunday school superintendent, and teacher. Albert participated in the distribution of Bibles with Gideon's International and served as president of its North West Camp of Grand Rapids.
Throughout his work and ministry, Albert was blessed to have his beloved wife by his side. Albert married the lovely Marietta Morgan on May 14, 1938. Their love and devotion created a nurturing home for their sons Thomas and Daniel. That Albert was present and attentive to his children is a tribute to his heavenly Father, since Albert missed seeing very much of his own father during childhood. Albert's family will tell you he was an excellent father and a wonderful husband. Whether in word or deed, at home or on the job, Albert shared a faith that meant everything to him.
The Scripture that reflects his life is 2 Timothy 4:7-8, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness." Albert Elton Rohrer, age 93, went home to be with his Lord on November 25, 2005. He is survived by his loving wife, Marietta, of 67 years; one sister, Alice (Lester) Klinker of North Carolina; and one son, Thomas (Joyce) Rohrer of Rockford. He was preceded in death by his son, Daniel, in 1982. Albert is also survived by his 2 grand-daughters, Michelle (Chris) Weeks and Sherilyn (Joel) Shaffer; 7 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. A service of Praise and Thanksgiving to God for the salvation provided Albert through Jesus Christ will be held at 11 A.M. at Standale Baptist Church on Saturday, December 3, 2005. The officiating pastors are Rev. Chris Weeks and Rev. John Watson. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery.
