Life Story / Obituary

Thomas H. Brown, age 77, went to be with his Lord & Savior on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 while in the comfort of his home and the company of his family. Tom was born in 1943 in Grand Rapids, MI to the late Louis and Marion Brown. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lorna [Heeringa] and their son Aaron (Lori) Brown, grandchildren; Connor, Teagan and Beckett and sister Judith Suckling as well as by many nieces and nephews. Tom enjoyed a distinguished career with Davenport University and loved the institution and people he worked with. His career spanned nearly 40 years and he held numerous positions ranging from an Instructor to Dean to Provost. He was a graduate of Grandville High School, Central Michigan University and earned a PhD from Michigan State University. Tom had been a longtime and faithful member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. He had a love of diverse music, watching sports, and played golf year around by wintering in Scottsdale, AZ. But most importantly he will be remembered for how he brightened the room with his good-natured personality and infectious sense of humor. As per Tom’s wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no immediate public services. A Celebration of Life Service will take place in the forthcoming summer months.
