Life Story / Obituary

Scott Alan Langeland, loved husband, dad, son and brother, went to be with his Lord on June 16, 2024, surrounded by his wife, Brenda, and their three children, Kelly VanderMolen, Libby Eppinga, Bryan Langeland with wife, Karen. Born on September 13, 1952 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Scott grew up with his five siblings, Karen Langeland, Julie (Kim) Howe, Dan (Joan) Langeland, Nan (Dale) Meunier, and Becky (Bob) Katsma. He graduated from Grand Rapids Christian High School where he met his beloved wife and best friend of 48 years.

Scott was known for always taking the scenic route, whether a leisurely drive with Brenda enjoying coffee near the water, or cruising with his Dad, Chuck Langeland, to Grand Haven for dinner. His love for nature was evident in his early morning walks through Blandford Nature Center, where he found solace and gratitude in God's creation. Scott's strong work ethic brought him 45+ years in a career at Victor S. Barnes. His life embodied warmth, humor, and genuine invitation to everyone around him.

Scott's legacy is a testament to a life lived fully - surrounded by family, long-time friends, and his pride of the West Side. He found joy in simple pleasures and his mantra to be grateful for normal days.

Scott was preceded in death by his Mother, Bernice Langeland. Survived by his Father, Charles Langeland, his wife, Brenda Langeland, and their three children, Kelly (Chad) VanderMolen, Libby (Arie) Eppinga, Bryan (Karen) Langeland and his seven grandchildren: Bridger and Reid VanderMolen; Reagan, Piper, Tucker Eppinga; Nora and Jack Langeland.

The family invites you to join them at the visitation on Thursday, June 20th from 2-4 PM or 6-8 PM at Heritage Life Story Funeral Home – Alt and Shawmut Hills Chapel, 2120 Lake Michigan Drive NW . The funeral service will be held Friday, June 21st at 11:00 AM at Westend Christian Reformed Church – 1015 Westend Ave. NW.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were touched by Scott.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Scott’s memory may be made to Westside Christian School Foundation by visiting https://wscsgr.org/wscs-education-foundation/. Paper donation envelopes will be available at visitation.
