Robert Raymond Kawka, age 72, passed away on July 3rd, 2025 after a long battle with an occupational illness. He was born on September 9th, 1952 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. A Lifelong Westsider he attended Holy Spirit Grade School and the “new” Union High School when it was first built. After a two-year attendance at Grand Valley State College, he became a longtime employee of American Seating and Union member.

Robert (Bob) was preceded in death by his sister, Connie; his mother and father, Charlotte Ann Pierce and Dr. Thomas J. Kawka. He is survived by two brothers, Thomas and Donald (Phiwan Promsen); Nephews and Niece, Daniel, Joseph and Emily; and life companion, Liz Warg.

His greatest passion was his involvement with general aviation. He gained a pilot’s license and had what seemed like a natural ability to fly. One of the planes he owned was a Piper Cherokee which was later used as a training tool for aspiring pilots. Completed in 2011, he built an experimental homebuilt airplane from a Van’s Aircraft RV-9 kit. Following his passion, he also made numerous pilgrimages to Oshkosh, Wisconsin for the EAA’s annual AirVenture Airshow.

All are invited to a graveside service on Friday, July 18, 2025 at 1 PM at Holy Cross Cemetery (2000 Walker NW Grand Rapids, MI 49504). In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your charity of choice in Robert's name.
