Norma Jean Solle (Kalawart), of Grand Rapids, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday February 1st, 2023. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Edward Solle Jr. and her brother Duane (Theresa) Kalawart and is survived by her brother Donald (Virginia) Kalawart. Norma and Ed often said that they felt so wonderfully blessed to be able to celebrate 67 years of marriage together! Norma will be deeply missed by her children Craig (Margaret) Solle, Michael Solle of Nashville, TN, Karen (Dave) Seitz, Jane (Bob) Bruggink, Anne-Marie (Jeff) Reid and her 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Her wonderful love and her guiding influence have been a true treasure and a priceless blessing.

Norma was born May 17, 1931 in Walker, MI and attended a tiny country school nearby for K-8th grade. She then graduated from Union High School as class valedictorian and proceeded to attend Calvin College. Norma was gifted with a wonderful voice that she used all her life to praise the Lord and to bless others in His name. She did solo and choral recordings under the Zondervan label, was part of the Grand Rapids Symphonic Choir, and was the guest contralto soloist for over 25 years in Handel’s Messiah performances. So many lives have been touched by her gift and she always gave God the glory for this talent. Norma also gave of herself in many other ways throughout her lifetime. She was a Bible Study leader for many years and provided leadership in 4H and MOPS (studies in faith for Mothers of Preschoolers).

The funeral service for Norma will be held on Wednesday, February 8 at LaGrave Ave CRC in downtown Grand Rapids at 11:30 AM. Visitation will begin at 10:00AM prior to the service. Private interment will be at Rosedale Cemetery. Norma’s family is so thankful for the loving care she received at Edison Assisted Living Center and through Faith Hospice. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to Edison Assisted Living Center. To read more about Norma, to share a memory or to sign her guestbook, please visit www.heritagelifestory.com.
