Martha Anna Grzyb, age 96, of Spring Lake passed away Saturday, November 25, 2006, at her home. She was born July 18, 1910 to Charles and Mary (Diendorf) Allen in Spring Lake. Martha attended Spring Lake and St. Patrick's schools and graduated from Grand Haven High School. She attended St. Mary's Nursing School for three years and University of Michigan Nursing School where she was assigned to Cook County Hospital in Chicago for post-graduate work. She also served as a nurse in the Hawaiian Islands after Pearl Harbor and later as a public health nurse for Ottawa County. Martha married Michael A. Grzyb on November 11, 1950 in Spring Lake; and he preceded her in death on December 5, 1972. Martha had been a Spring Lake resident all of her life and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and St. Mary's Women's Group. She enjoyed sewing, playing the organ, singing, traveling and especially her family. Survivors include her daughter, Mary (Denver) Todd Jr. of Grand Haven and her son, Michael (Pat) Grzyb of Spring Lake; three grandchildren, Marcy Todd, Denver, Todd III and Katy Grzyb; sisters-in-law, Emily Allen, Moira Allen, Helen Grzyb, Louise DeWitt, Fran Grabman, Pauline Grzyb; several nieces and nephews and good friends Bill and Jera Drent and Joan Boand. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Geraldine Allen, Margaret Orth and (Novitiate of the Sisters of Mercy) Sister Mary Constance and Sister Mary Fidelia. Also preceding her in death were five brothers, John, Charles, Dennis, James and Martin. The Funeral Liturgy will be Wednesday 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. Anthony Vainavicz as celebrant. Friends may meet the family Tuesday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. with a Scripture Service at 7:45 p.m. at VanZantwick, Bartels, Kammeraad in Spring Lake. Interment will be at Spring Lake Cemetery. Memorials to St. Mary's Catholic Church or Hospice of North Ottawa www.noch.org/hospice.html are appreciated.
