Lois M DeShane, age 96, passed away on February 13, 2023. She was sure she would make it to 100, but God had other plans. A resident favorite at Grand Brook Memory Care, where she spent the last two years being doted on and adored by the staff all while keeping up with her stylish appearance. She loved a great purse and pair of shoes! Lois was a feisty woman who kept you on your toes. She was hilarious, irreverent, and without a filter. Some may say she was "unapologetically Lois" which is also why we loved her so. There was never a dull or boring moment with Lois around, only laughter and a few shocking jaw drops of course. Born in Ludington, her family moved to Mesick, where she spent most of her youth on the farm. She pursued a career in nursing, graduating from Mercy Central in 1947 as an RN. In 1948, she met her future husband, Floyd "Bud" DeShane at a party while smoking a corn cob pipe with her feet stretched out on a table. It was love at first sight and they were married in 1950. They spent time in Ann Arbor as Lois worked at St. Mary's and St. Joseph's Hospital as an RN while her husband completed his degree. After graduation, they moved to Greenville and then Grand Rapids. Although we're not sure Lois liked children, she and Bud went on to have 5; Michele Geldersma, James DeShane, John (Jana) DeShane, Timothy (Karen) DeShane, and Beth Stribley who all survive her. She leaves behind her sisters-in-law, Andre Phillips and Evelyn DeShane, and several nieces and nephews. Her grandchildren will dearly miss their Gram's sassiness and witty banter; Amy (Chris ) Bozek, Wendy (Emma Green) Geldersma, Donald (Tina) DeShane, Michael (Kristina) DeShane, Stephanie (Joey) Velez, Ashley (Brett) Murray, Stacie (Mike) Bird, Rachel (Luke) Marin and Jordan (Carmen) Burke as well as 16 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Floyd, her brothers; Dr. Charles Phillips and Robert Phillips, siblings-in-law; Charles DeShane, Richard and Evelyn VandeKopple, DO and Alice Stuck. Her sons-in-law, Donald Geldersma and Thomas Stribley also preceded her in death. Her humor and spunk will live on in our hearts forever. The memorial for Lois will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, May 6th at Heritage Life Story Funeral Home - Van Strien Creston Chapel, 1833 Plainfield Ave NE. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Contributions in her memory may be made to Faith Hospice.
