VanKoevering, Kathryn (Crispin) 9/27/1932 – 10/21/2022

Kathryn (Kay, Katie) VanKoevering, age 90, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on October 21, 2022. She passed peacefully in the comfort of her home and in the company of her family. She was preceded in death by her parents Clifford and Rachel Crispin; sister Colleen Abrahams; son-in-law Russ Greavu; great-great granddaughter Melody Schuiling; and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Kay is survived by her husband of 70 years, Carl; her children Linda Scott-Greavu, Mary VanKoevering, Steve (Peg) VanKoevering; siblings Lawrence (Jeannie) Crispin, Elouise Hubbell, Ruth Hesselink; siblings-in-law Duane VanKoevering, Sherryl Fleetham, Karen (Herb) Oakes, Norma Tetro; nine grandchildren, over 30 great-grandchildren and a handful of great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; “adopted daughter”, Mimi Clements; her church family; and many other friends. The family would like to thank Katie, Brian and Elizabeth, her Spectrum Health Hospice Team, for their tender care and support. Kay had a passion for children, as they did for her. She enjoyed directing Bible School, and teaching Sunday School, Awana and Release Time. She shared Bible stories and truths with children for many, many years, often presenting her lessons through the use of flannel graph and creative object lessons. She also spent countless hours reading her Bible and in prayer, and God blessed her with the ability to encourage others, in both joyous and challenging times. This was her greatest and most special gift. Kay’s most important goals in life were to secure her place in Heaven, enjoy life’s journey, and take as many people to Heaven with her as possible. She was a long-time member of Grand Valley Baptist Church, 3186 River Hill Drive, Grand Rapids, MI 49534, where a memorial service to celebrate her life, officiated by Pastor Dan Heistand, will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with her family on Friday, November 4, 2022, from 4-7 PM at the Heritage Life Story Funeral Home - Alt and Shawmut Hills Chapel, 2120 Lake Michigan Drive NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504. A private burial ceremony will take place at Rosedale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Bibles International C/O Grand Valley Baptist Church.
