Life Story / Obituary
John Edward Breuer, age 84, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2024. John was preceded in death by his wife, Marcia; his parents, Walter and Phoebe Breuer; brother Walter Jr.; sister, Mary Breuer; infant sister, Margaret Breuer, brother-in law, Daniel Kay and son-in-law Matt Charon. He will be lovingly remembered by his children; Mary (Mark) Huyser, Mike (Renae) Breuer, Lisa Charon and Tim (Amy) Breuer; his grandchildren Nick, Katie, Graci, Kylie, Travis, Taylor, Jackson and Jaeden; one great-grand-daughter Ellie; his sister Elizabeth Kay; and his many nieces, nephews, and friends.
John was a kindhearted and generous man. He loved sharing his life with Marcia and they both had such pride in their lovely home. John spent his career working for the Department of Housing and Urban Development and retired in 1996. He then enjoyed his retirement by working as a crossing guard at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School for 21 years. He was so proud that the school kids called him “Mr. John - the world’s greatest crossing guard”. He could be seen on his daily walks through the neighborhood visiting with friends. He cherished those days and the many friendships he made over the years.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 2510 Richmond NW, Grand Rapids, MI, on October 23, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Richard Host as celebrant. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to mass. The family wishes to thank the compassionate team at Emmanuel Hospice and in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Emmanuel Hospice in memory of John. www.heritagelifestory.com
