Life Story / Obituary

Joan Carol (Phillips) Kazemier, age 76, of Allendale, went to be with her risen Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 13, 2023. She will always be remembered for her steadfast faith, resilience in the face of challenge, and selfless devotion to her friends and family. Her contagious laughter and adventurous streak were a delight to those who knew her well. She was down-to-earth, generous, optimistic, and famous for arriving with a tray of delicious, homemade baked goods. She had a deep appreciation for the beauty of God’s creation, enjoying walks on nature trails, kayaking, and she had a special place in her heart for riding horses.

Joan was a known prayer warrior who was dedicated to studying the Bible. She found great joy in listening to worship music and praising God. She loved the LORD and walked with Him daily, not afraid of what the future held for her. In a long and difficult battle against cancer, Joan’s reliance on God was her strength. She will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her to run their race faithfully, as she did. She truly trusted in the goodness and love of God, knowing that His faithfulness continues through all generations (Psalm 100:5). Her true passion in life was for others to know the love of God.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Carolyn Phillips. Joan will be lovingly remembered and missed by her husband, George; her daughters, Michelle Schoenborn (Kevin) and Sherri Lemmen (Karl); her grandchildren, Lauren Mahaffey (Daniel), Nicole Schoenborn, Krystal Bratcher (Ethan), Hailey Lemmen, Jodi Lemmen, Zackery Lemmen, and Katie Lemmen; her great-grandchild, Luke Bratcher; and her siblings James Phillips (Elsie), Jack Phillips (Kathleen), and Jean Phillips. Her memory will live on in their hearts forever.

Immediate family members are invited to attend the funeral service, which will be held on Thursday, May 18 at Heritage Shawmut Chapel at 10 am. Pastor Wes Coffey from Life Stream Church will officiate. Private interment will be at Rosedale Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Joan’s honor to Equine Assisted Development, 3224 32nd Street, Grand Rapids, MI 49512. Condolences may be sent online at heritagelifestory.com.
