KOOISTRA, Jerry

Went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, January 10, 2020, at age 89. Jerry was born February 9, 1930 in Friesland, Netherlands to the late Kempe and Jacoba (Wagnaar) Kooistra. He was a charter member of Rogers Heights Christian Reformed Church serving as elder, deacon and Sunday school teacher and later a member at Lee Street Christian Reformed Church. Jerry was a dedicated board member of Godwin Christian School and an avid reader, woodworker and gardener. Jerry is survived by his wife of 65 years, LaVon Kooistra; children, Marcia (Gordon) Koll of Grand Rapids, Donald (Sandra) Kooistra of Grandville; grandchildren and great grandchildren, Jennette & Matthew Allen (Samuel & Eleanore) of Rockford, Randall & Bridgette Koll (Owen & Rylee) of Belmont, Elizabeth & Thomas Steenwyk (Josef & Leonard) of Rockford, Jamie & Jeff Koetje (Brianna & Nathan) of Grandville, and Jackie Buiter (Benjamin, Grace, & David) of Byron Center. Also surviving are his sister Joann Kooistra of Grandville; sister-in-law, Jane Kooistra of Jenison; brother-in-law, Mick Dwarshuis of Wyoming; special niece, Kimberly Koll, and several nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his grandson-in-law, Chris Buiter; brothers, Henry Kooistra, Chris and Rena Kooistra; and sister-in-law, Shirley Dwarshuis. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at 11 AM at Washington Park Memorial Gardens, 1205 Richmond Street NW. Memorials may be made to Anchor Point Christian School.
