Life Story / Obituary

Janis Lyn Tzortzinis (Vosler) passed away on Wednesday at the age of 80, after struggling in recent years with Lewy Body Dementia.

Jan will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Nicole Tzortzinis, son and daughter-in-law, Andreas (Andy) and Amy Tzortzinis, and grandchild Flora Tzortzinis.

Jan showed up constantly for family and friends, and taught us to do the same. Outgoing and silly, she made friends everywhere. Those who knew her will miss her sharp wit which was paired with a tender nature ("I cry easy").

Jan had guts and was constantly surprising people - including her children. These characteristics allowed her to go from a quiet Grand Rapids girl to a career woman in New York City, where she met her husband, Gus.

Jan loved travel and especially cherished the time spent in her husband's homeland, Greece.

Jan extended her gifts freely to friends new and old - she was involved for several years in efforts to welcome new Americans and help them to get settled into life in Grand Rapids.

Jan's faith guided her through life, and we know she is now in a joyful place with family and friends who departed before her, including her beloved husband, Konstantinos (Gus), her parents Elsie and Leonard, and her brother, Keith.

Friends and family may gather to remember her on Sunday, June 23 from 2-5pm at Heritage Life Story Funeral Home, Alt & Shawmut Hills Chapel, 2120 Lake Michigan Dr, N.W. Grand Rapids, MI 49504

The Tzortzinis family would like to thank staff at Green Acres of Standale and Corewell Health Hospice for taking great care of her.

In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to the International Rescue Committee, rescue.org. Alternatively, do what Jan did and apply for your passport, and book travel to a place that will change your perspective - life is too short not to!
