Irwin John “Jack” Fahlen was born in Iron Mountain, Michigan to Carl and Esther Fahlen on April 8, 1933. He passed away on December 24, 2022 with his wife by his side. Jack graduated from Thornton Township High School (Harvey, IL), received a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois, and a MBA from Wayne State University. He came to Detroit in 1955 and worked for five years at Square D, ten years at Detroit Edison and 28 years at ABB Power Transmission and Distribution Company. He retired in 1998 as Senior Executive Sales Engineer.

Jack served on the Southfield Township Trustee Board for 21 years and on the Village of Beverly Hills Zoning Board of Appeals for 35 years. He also served in the U.S. Navy with the Seabees for 18 months in the Philippine Islands.

Jack joined the Detroit Covenant Church and continued through its following moves, serving often as a trustee, treasurer and on the Executive Committee.

He met Donna Jones at the church when she came to Michigan in 1958. They were married in 1960 and they were married for 62 years. Their mutual interests took them to the seven continents, over 60 countries, to all 50 states, and all 63 National Parks. A very favorite place was an Elk Rapids, Michigan vacation home on Lake Michigan where they enjoyed biking, skiing, sailing, kayaking, and he enjoyed golf.

Jack is survived by his wife, Donna; a brother-in-law, Dixon Jones of Eden Prairie, MN; niece Darlyce Jones (Tiimo Mang), three nephews, Douglas Jones, Derron (Jo) Jones, Derek (Chris) Jones and six great nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Evangelical Covenant Church in Grand Rapids or to the Benevolent Care Fund at Covenant Living of the Great Lakes.

The service to remember and celebrate Jack’s life will be held on Saturday, January 14 at 10 AM at Covenant Living of the Great Lakes. There will be a time to visit following the service.
