Life Story / Obituary
Dr. Girum Ketema Melka was born on July 24, 1959, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to his beloved mother, Bizunesh Woldebrehan, and his father, Major Ketema Melka, a devoted military man. He grew up in a lively and loving household alongside four brothers and one sister, each of whom witnessed and cherished his unwavering character, strength, and compassion. Girum is survived by his loving wife Lemlem and his three children. Semeon, Eden, & Rebecca. From a young age, it was clear that Girum carried a unique presence—quiet but powerful, kind but uncompromising, humble yet immensely accomplished. He began his education at Assefa Wossen Elementary School. He then attended Misrak Comprehensive High School where he pursued his studies with unrelenting dedication. Despite limited opportunities in a system that allowed little room for second chances, Dr. Girum excelled, eventually earning his medical degree from Addis Ababa University. His achievements in Ethiopia alone would have been enough to deem a great life, but for Dr. Girum, they were just the beginning. A man of deep faith and boundless determination, he immigrated to the United States with his wife, Lemlem Abate, building a new life for his family through sheer perseverance and love. Dr. Girum was more than a medical professional —he was a protector, a visionary, and a quiet force for good in every community he touched. He wore his heart on his sleeve, stood firm in his beliefs, and lived guided by an unshakable faith in God. His legacy is etched not only in the lives he saved but in the lives he inspired. Though he has left this earth, he fulfilled his divine mission with grace and integrity. He now rests with the Lord, his journey complete, but his impact eternal.
