Life Story / Obituary
Gerard Philip Lampani, age 87, passed away May 10, 2026 with his loving family at his side. Gerard was born May 2, 1939 in Grand Rapids to the late Eugene and Arvilla (Allard) Lampani. He was also preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Lampani; sister, Patricia Wheeler; and his brothers, Richard Lampani, Eugene Lampani, and Mike Lampani. Gerard was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy and retired after 38 years at the City of Grand Rapids Water Department. He also worked 5 years for Mercantile Bank as a courier and 5 years advocating for veterans as a service officer for the Veterans Affairs. Gerard was instrumental in organizing the Grand Rapids Independent Union and served as a 2nd Vice President of the union. He also served as president of Municipal Employee Association. On June 3, 1961 Gerard married Mary Ann Gryczanoski. His wife of 64 years survives as do his daughters, Tamara (Donald) McNabb, Christine (James) Pelton, Marcia Rademacher; grandchildren, Dennis (Brittany) Allen, Jennifer (Pam) Albrough, Jessica (Chad) Grady, Nathan McNabb, Matthew (Shannon) Pelton, Nicholas (Natalie) Pelton, Bradley (Becca) Pelton, Derek (Tessa) Pelton, Joshua Lampani, Olivia Lampani, Arielle Jackson, Benjamin Jackson; and 19 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Roberta Chapman; sisters-in-law, Cathy Chamberlain and Betty Lampani; and many nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, May 15, 2026 at 11 AM at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 2510 Richmond St NW. Friends may visit with his family on Thursday from 6-8 PM at Heritage Life Story Funeral Homes, Alt & Shawmut Hills Chapel, 2120 Lake Michigan Dr NW. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial are suggested to Michigan Veteran Homes at Grand Rapids.
