On Friday, May 28, 2021, Gerard “Jerry” Mitchell passed into Heaven, on the loving arms of Jesus Christ his Lord and Savior. We praise God that Jerry is out of his devastating earthly pain and is restored in a new soul as he will live all of Eternity in the presence and Glory of God. Jerry was born in Grand Rapids on May 1, 1941, to J. Leo and Eva Mitchell, and he lived to enjoy a quiet, carefree, and simple life. Jerry is survived by his daughter Karen (Tim) Winkels, grandchildren Tyler and Kylie Winkels, sister Lynn (Ron) Novak and several nieces and nephews. Jerry always found comfort along the side of his dear childhood friend Jon Tylzynski and long-time friends Chuck & Karol Worm, along with their extended family including Amos Marshall & Family. Throughout the last few months of Jerry’s recovery, a special thanks goes out to that staff and chauffeurs at Laurels of Kent in Lowell, the Lena Meijer Heart Center, the staff at the Select Specialty Hospital at Spectrum Health-Blodgett, technicians at DaVita, and in the final days staff with the Spectrum Health Hospice and Palliative Care. Also, a special thanks goes to Veronica who worked to wrap up Jerry’s loose ends. Cremation has taken place, and a private family service will be held later. Jerry loved German Shepherds, especially his dear girl Marlena who always had a special spot in his heart. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes contributions be made to your favorite animal shelter or rescue agency.
