Genevieve Wilma Youngs Nederveld, age 96, went to her heavenly home on February 12, 2020.

Gen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Les Nederveld Sr., daughter-in-law Toni Nederveld, son and daughter-in-law Ken and Kathy Nederveld, great granddaughter Ava Grace Nederveld, and her parents, Gordon and Jennie Youngs. Gen was a member of Broadway/Westview Christian Reformed Church for 96 years and 7 months.

Mom was the last remaining member of a most wonderful family generation, the best group of Aunts and Uncles that any family could ask for including Sid and Lillian Werkema, George and Neltha Groters, Hank and Betty Joustra, Jim and Vi Slabbekoorn, Melvin and Helen Nederveld, and Clare and Evelyn Wybenga. As a family, we feel so blessed for this wonderful heritage!

Mom is survived by:

Her children, Les Jr., Ken’s very special friend, Sandy Baker, Marje and Rick De Voogd, and Gord and Sherry Nederveld.

Her 13 cherished Grandchildren and their spouses, Jenell and John Sherman, Leslie and Andrew Vanden Akker, Toni and Jesse Dunn, Paul and Kelsey Nederveld, Jason Nederveld, Chris and Cathy Nederveld, Dustin and Sarah DeVoogd, Sara DeVoogd, Derrick DeVoogd, Tyler DeVoogd, Kurt and Rachel Nederveld, Scott Nederveld, and Lori and Matthew Hochhalter.

Her 22 Great Grandchildren (the GG group) Ben, Heidi, Kate and Jude Sherman; Andrew, Luke, Allie, and Laney Vanden Akker; Huxton, Ryder, and Lucy Dunn, Natalie, Isaac, Ben and Aaron De Voogd, Evie, Allie, and Jade Nederveld, and Jeremiah, Josiah, Walker, and Ellie Hochhalter.

Mom was able to stay in her beloved home until just the last three months and then received loving care at the Edison Christian Health Center.

A special thanks is extended to the leadership team and the many students of Empire Beauty School in Standale who always treated Mom like a queen and created a weekly highlight for her over the last 10 years.

Family visitation for Gen will be at Heritage Life Story Funeral Home from 4:30 – 7:30 on Friday, February 14 as well as one hour before the service on Saturday. The funeral service will begin at 11 A.M. on Saturday, February 15 with her pastor, Rev. Pete Byma officiating. Burial will be in Washington Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions would be appreciated for the Westview Christian Reformed Church’s “Renovate and Renew” Building Project. To God be the glory for a long and loving life!
