Frederick Tenhoor

Frederick Martin Tenhoor Jr, age 94 of Grand Rapids, passed away December 27, 2020. Born to Frederick and Marie TenHoor, Fred grew up in Grand Rapids, graduating from Creston High School. He then started working as a mechanic, becoming the first Volkswagen trained mechanic in the area. He loved cars and for that matter, anything that moved. However, he eventually moved into accounting work.

After being single for 45 years, Fred met Fern Newton (Shoemaker) at a dance. They married and enjoyed 42 years together. Together they enjoyed dancing, traveling and going to the symphony. He was a wonderful caregiver, making sure she was able to stay home through her later years before passing away in 2013.

Fred was a lifelong learner, loved reading and kept up on current events and politics.

Fred is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Marion “Mick” and Sue Tenhoor; stepdaughter April (James) Siegers; several nieces and nephews, and his special friend, Janice Bertoia. Cremation has taken place and a service will be held in the spring. For those who wish, memorial contributions to North End Community Ministries are appreciated.
