Edna Adastik, age 97, entered her eternal rest on Monday, January 18, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband, George B. Adastik; brother, Thomas Freeman; and sister, Helen Freeman. Edna is survived by several cousins, sister-in-law, Margaret Freeman; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins of George. Born in Greenville, South Carolina, she spent her childhood years in Simcoe, Ontario Canada. She started her nursing career, receiving her Canadian Nursing Degree in 1943 at St. Joseph’s in Hamilton, Ontario before relocating to Detroit where she continued her lifelong commitment to nursing, earning an additional degree from Wayne State University. She served a professorship at Sinai Hospital’s Shapiro School of Nursing. She was a dedicated member of the Board of Accreditation for Nursing Schools. Upon retirement, she and George moved to Grand Rapids and attended St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. She was a proud member of Meijer Gardens and a volunteer at Blodgett Hospital. A graveside service will be held Thursday, January 28 at 1 PM at Graceland Memorial Park. For those who wish, memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association of Michigan are appreciated.
