Mr. Donald C. Kalawart, age 90, of Grand Rapids, passed away on October 20, 2025. He was preceded in death by his sister, Norma (Ed) Solle; brother, Duane (Tress) Kalawart; and brothers-in-law, Jerry (Bev) Fryling and Bob (Ruth) Fryling. Donald is survived by his wife of 66 years, Virginia; sons, Kenneth (Angie) Kalawart and Kevin Kalawart; granddaughters, Erin (Tyler) Dewey and Lisa (Brandon) Nietling; great-granddaughters , Bella and Leia; and several nieces and nephews. Donald graduated from Grandville High School in 1953. After high school he enlisted in the US Navy and served aboard the U.S.S Iowa at the close of the Korean war. Donald graduated in 1959 from Davenport College School of Business and worked in the building supply industry for over 40 years and retired in 1999 as President of Burton Building Products. Donald was a lifelong member of the Reformed Church of America and served as a Deacon and elder for many years. During his retirement he enjoyed traveling, talking sports and playing golf. The funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, October 27, 2025 at Heritage Life Story Funeral Home- Alt and Shawmut Hills Chapel, 2120 Lake Michigan Dr. NW. Visitation from 10 AM until the start of the service. Interment in Restlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the West Michigan Area Youth for Christ.
