David John Kik, age 62, of Ada, Michigan, passed away from a heart attack on May 8, 2024. Dave was born on November 15, 1961, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and grew up in Standale, Michigan. He graduated from Grandville High School in 1979.

He started dating Kelly Curtis, who grew up in the same Standale neighborhood, when they were both 16 years old (she was a Sophomore and he was a Junior). They were married on October 8, 1983 and lived in Ramblewood Apartments in Wyoming. Their daughter, Melissa Rene’ Kik, was born three years later. They moved to Ada in 1989, and their son Allan David Kik was born one month later.

Dave worked for 30+ years at Spec Tool in Sparta, then worked the last few years at Evans Tool & Engineering on Three Mile Road in Walker. His first job was at a restaurant in Standale. He also did some work at his dad’s music store, Kik & Associates on Fulton Street, repairing electric guitars, amplifiers, and spent many hours just hanging around the store. If you wanted to find Dave, you knew he would be in the garage at a friend’s house working on a car, snowmobile, or shooting the breeze with his buddies: Mike Courtade, Rick Diekevers, Chris Wojtas, Randy Veldman, and the Zokoe boys.

He loved Nascar and traveled to many race tracks to watch the races from the infield. One summer he raced go-karts at the Ravenna Go-Kart track. He loved riding his Honda motorcycle and took several trips with Kelly. Dave purchased a cabin near Wellston, Michigan, and spent many weekends enjoying the peace and quiet of the north woods. He owned several Jeeps over the years and was actively involved in the planning of the annual Jeep Blessing in Mesick, Michigan, where about 2,000 Jeeps converged earlier this month for fun in the mud and other activities. His garage was an absolute man cave where he worked on his Jeep, built remote cars, assembled drones, using his welder and drill press, designed and programmed all kinds of things on his computer, and constantly amazed his family and friends with the things he was able to do.

In addition to his wife and children, Dave is survived by his mother, Joyce Kik, sister Julie (Dennis) Joppe, sister Kari (James) Poppema, nephews Alex (Jenna) Joppe, Christopher (Allison) Poppema, and Mitchell (Marika) Poppema, and many other extended relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, John Charles Kik, who passed away in 1994, grandparents Edward and Bernadette Misner, and grandparents John and Gladys Kik.

Family and friends are invited to visit with the family from 1PM to 3PM on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Heritage Life Story Funeral Home, 2120 Lake Michigan Drive. Dave’s ashes will have their final resting place at Rosedale Memorial Park Cemetery just outside of Standale on Lake Michigan Drive. This will be done privately by the family at a later date.
