Barbara Kaye Thompson (nee DeVries, previously Brouwer by marriage), beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on June 7, 2024, in Traverse City, MI, at the age of 81. She was born on September 12, 1942, in Grand Rapids, MI, and is survived by her children Bryan (Jenni), Brett (Dawna), Kim (John), Scott, and Heather. She is also survived by her grandchildren Alex (Erin), Taylor, Christian (Lydia), Fischer, and Allison, her great-grandson Jamie, and many nieces and nephews. Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Paul DeVries and Kaye Kooyers, stepfather Russ Kooyers, her husband Dave Thompson, and sisters Donna Nardin and Kathie DeVries.

Barb, a graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High School, had a successful career in real estate and dedicated herself to her profession. Known for her warm and welcoming personality, she made lasting connections with those she encountered.

Christmas was undoubtedly Barb's favorite time of year. She enjoyed watching holiday movies and spreading cheer through gift giving. She delighted in her family tradition of getting together for a day of chaos and conversation, too much food, and oh so many presents! Barb always loved listening to Dave play the piano and went on to learn herself. She enjoyed many years of practicing and perfecting hymns and Christmas carols. A forever fan of Elvis, the mention of his name alone brought a smile to her face and a sparkle to her eyes! Barb adored her pets. Most recently, she was devoted to her dog, Izzy, who was by her side for 13 years.

Barb will be remembered for her love and dedication to her family, her bright smile, and her ability to make friends with everyone she met. She will be missed dearly.

Friends are invited to visit with Barb's family at a memorial gathering on Saturday, July 13, 2024 from 10am-12pm at Heritage Life Story Funeral Home - Alt & Shawmut Hills Chapel, 2120 Lake Michigan Drive NW in Grand Rapids.
