When reflecting on the life of Ashlyn Rogers, it is easy to see both her unwavering strength and her unconditional love for her family. She was well known for her courage and determination, and she always had an encouraging word to say despite the trials she faced. Nothing brought Ashlyn greater joy than spending time with her loved ones, even in the simplest of moments. She had an insatiable zest for life that was felt by all around her, fully embracing each and every moment she was given. Dearly loved, Ashlyn will be forever missed by those who knew her best.

While the year 2009 saw the challenges of a more uncertain economy and all the variables that brings, there was much to celebrate in the lives of Jason and Ronda (Womble) Rogers as they announced the birth of the baby girl named Ashlyn Kristina on April 19th, in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Ashlyn joined her family as the sixth of seven children and was raised in the Grandville area. She was closest in age to her younger brother, Jaxon, so she liked to lovingly pick on him as older sisters are known to do. But she also spent a lot of time with her older siblings, Kaitlyn, Austin, Courtney, Sophia, and Sam. Ashlyn doted on her two cats, Kenje and Jasper, as well as her dog, Daisy and treasured the companionship of their pets.

Throughout her childhood, Ashlyn attended local schools and worked very hard to succeed. She went to West Elementary and then to Grandville Middle School. Ashlyn truly excelled in her studies and enjoyed all aspects of going to school. She fully immersed herself into student life as she sang in the choir and played the cello, and she also participated in various sports including gymnastics, cheerleading, and softball. Social and outgoing, Ashlyn loved eating lunch with her close-knit group of friends. She liked staying active, but she liked the opportunity to make friends even more through all her involvements in sports and activities even more.

Never one to sit still for long, Ashlyn pursued many hobbies to stay busy. She first fell in love with swimming in the small pool on the deck, and later in life she found a passion for kayaking and paddle-boarding. Ashlyn also enjoyed winter activities such as snowboarding, ice skating, ice fishing, and sledding. She loved going to the park and swinging.

In her free time, Ashlyn liked to do a variety of things. These interests included cooking and baking. She had a lifelong passion for arts and crafts and often liked to draw and do various projects that let her creativity shine. Ashlyn’s mind for business led her to sell some of her crafts, including drawings of people’s pets and slime. She was an avid reader and devoured Harry Potter, Twilight, and Percy Jackson. Ashlyn also loved watching movies, especially at theaters with popcorn, or watching reality shows such as cooking shows, Survivor, and The Voice. She was a huge fan of country music and of Blake Shelton. Ashlyn was thrilled to have the chance to see him in concert and visit his restaurant in Nashville, and she loved tuning in to The Voice so that she could watch him host. She had a heart for any kind of animals, including birds and butterflies. Ashlyn enjoyed traveling with her family, and over the years she loved their many memorable trips to water parks, the beach, and Mackinac Island.

All who knew Ashlyn can surely agree that she faced challenges head on. After months of shoulder pain, she was finally diagnosed with fibrolamellar cancer, beginning her battle. Ashlyn’s determination earned her the nickname of WarriorAshlyn, which was made into a T-shirt. She and her family received tremendous support from friends and their community, and they were so blessed to recognize the generosity of many. Ashlyn’s health struggles allowed her to grow close to her new friend, Graeleigh, who was battling the same diagnosis. Even through the various shutdowns in the last few years, Ashlyn was able to stay in touch with her beloved friends through messaging and Facetimes. Though she was able to be in school, she looked forward to talking to her friends in group chats at the end of the day. Ashlyn looked forward to her week at Camp Catch-A-Rainbow, and she enjoyed a family trip to Disney World and Sanibel Island, Florida, in April of 2022. She continued to pursue her love of crafts, and she found a new passion in watching and creating YouTube videos. Ashlyn also liked playing Roblox.

As her family and friends can surely attest, Ashlyn Rogers truly understood the secret to a life well lived. She was a constant source of strength, even in the most difficult of times. Ashlyn was full of energy and joy, and she was always willing to go above and beyond to serve others. She never gave up and kept fighting until the very end. Though she will be deeply missed, Ashlyn leaves behind a priceless collection of memories that her loved ones will be proud to carry on in her footsteps.

Ashlyn Rogers, age 13, was full of energy and had a zest for life. She was always busy with an activity, with her friends and family. WarriorAshlyn bravely battled Fibrolamellar Carcinoma over the last four years.

She is survived by her parents, Jason and Ronda; her sisters and brothers Jaxon Rogers, Kaitlyn Bagge (Shawn VanPutten), Austin Bagge, Courtney Rogers, Sophia Rogers and Sam Rogers; her grandparents Kerry & Sherri Rogers, Harry Womble; aunts and uncles Traci & Matthew Russo, Carrie Ann Rogers (Clay), Tammi Rogers (Nate), Ryan & Teresa Womble as well as many cousins. Ashlyn had many friends, but was especially close to her best friend, Elli Tillema, as well as her fellow cancer warrior Graeleigh.

Ashlyn was preceded in death by her grandma, Dianne Lape. The service to remember and celebrate Ashlyn’s life will be held on Monday, December 19, 2022 at 1 PM at Heritage Life Story Funeral Home – Alt & Shawmut Hills Chapel, 2120 Lake Michigan Drive NW. Friends are invited to visit with her family at the funeral home beginning at 11 AM.
