Arturo Flores

Courageous, passionate, and hardworking as they come, Arturo Flores never missed a chance to make sure his friends and family knew just how dearly they were loved. He was a constant source of strength, no matter the circumstances, and he faced every challenge that came his way with grit and unwavering determination. As his family flourished, nothing brought Arturo greater happiness than being surrounded by his loved ones. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were undeniably the pride and joy of his life. Already dearly missed, Arturo’s memory will be cherished, and he will be forever loved and remembered by those who knew him best.

The early 1940s are among some of the most tumultuous years in history as WWII raged across Europe. Here at home in the United States, the Great Depression was reaching its end at last. Many watched the rising tensions overseas with held breath, waiting anxiously to see if America would enter the war. It was on November 29th of 1940 that baby Arturo made his entrance into the world. Born in San Antonio, Texas, Arturo was welcomed by his parents, Eufemio and Enrieqtta Flores. He was raised alongside his siblings, Rene, Mary Louise, Tony, Salvador, and Henry. The Flores family had deep ancestral ties to Texas.

As a young man, Arturo followed the call to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Army. After his service came to an end, he settled down in Saginaw, Michigan, where he would spend the rest of his life. Arturo met and married Mary Ann Flores. The two welcomed their six sons, Arturo Jr., Andrew, Robert, Raymond, Gilbert, and Juan, into their hearts and home. Although his marriage to Mary Ann eventually ended in divorce, Arturo remained on good terms with her, and he had nothing but respect for the mother of his children.The two raised their boys with an abundance of love and care.

In addition to having sons of his own, Arturo’s family grew to include several nieces and nephews. Later in life, he became an adoring grandfather to a dozen grandchildren and even got to welcome eight great-grandchildren into the world. Arturo’s family was undoubtedly his greatest treasure. His arms were open to everyone, and with his compassionate heart, he never turned anyone away.

In order to provide for himself and those who depended on him, Arturo worked many odd jobs over the years. He worked as a carpenter for a time, and he did some factory work as well. Arturo was constantly striving to better himself. He had a lifelong passion for photography and loved taking photos. Arturo was famous for wearing one of the unique hats from his prized collection, including sombreros, mariachi hats, and military hats. An avid sports fan, he cheered on the Detroit Tigers and Lions and followed every game. Arturo’s Hispanic and Native American ancestry was a formative piece of the man he was. Above all else, he deeply cherished his family and his Lord Jesus Christ, and he brought warmth and light into every room.

As we gather to reflect on the vibrant life of Arturo Flores, it is easy to celebrate a man who embraced others with such fierce and unconditional love. He served as a powerful role model of responsibility and selflessness for all those who looked up to him. Arturo’s primary focus was always caring for his family. His faith in Jesus was steadfast, and his generosity has left an unforgettable impact in the lives of many. Although he will be greatly missed, Arturo leaves behind a priceless legacy that his loved ones can be proud to carry on in his footsteps.
