Amaryllis Buurstra (DeJong), went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday June 24, 2024 with her family by her side. Amaryllis was preceded in death by her parents Jacob and Julia DeJong, and her husband of 56 years Frank Buurstra. Amaryllis is survived by her loving children, Jack and Patti Buurstra, Todd and Natsuko Buurstra, Dean and Beth Buurstra; her grandchildren, Tim and Paige Buurstra, Pete and Julie Buurstra, Emily and Aaron Carriere, Stefanie and Patrick Konarska, Zachary Buurstra, Carissa Buurstra and Tyler Woelfel, Chris Raab, Julie and Chris Hatcher, and Ben and Lauren Buurstra, along with her thirteen great grandchildren.

Amaryllis was born in the winter of 1928 in Oskaloosa, Iowa and was raised in Leighton, Iowa. Amaryllis was the daughter of a pastor, and her faith was always very important to her. Amaryllis became a proficient organist and pianist and many times would play at her father’s services. Amaryllis’ father was a chaplain in the Second World War which made it necessary for the family to move many times. As providence would have it, Amaryllis met Frank Buurstra on a blind date, and they married in 1949.

Amaryllis and Frank settled in Comstock Park on Four Mile Road, where Frank built the family home which she lived in for sixty years. Amaryllis felt that stability was important for her family. Amaryllis was a homemaker and felt it was important to model her faith with her family.

A private family graveside service will take place on Wednesday June 26, 2024, at Washington Park Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions in Amaryllis' name can be made to Mel Trotter Ministries. To leave a memory or sign the guest book, please visit www.heritagelifestory.com
