OBITUARY The Life of Michael Larry Booker

Michael Larry Booker was born May 8, 1961, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to the late Willie and Frankie Booker. He was the sixth of seven children. Three of his siblings, Marilyn, Darryl, and Paulette, preceded him in death.

Michael was educated in the Grand Rapids public school system.

He was baptized at an early age and dedicated his life to Christ. He was a former member and Deacon at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church and later in life became a member of From the Heart Christian Community Church.

Some of his proudest moments were the birth of his daughter, Acelia, and subsequently becoming a grandfather to Lydia and Kendra and a Great-grandfather to Divine-Justice.

In the 1990s, he discovered a soulmate and life partner in RhaeAnn Richardson, leading to their marriage on September 25, 1993. They were a loving, inseparable, faith-filled couple who were married for more than 30 years until her death on February 3, 2024.

Throughout his life, Michael worked for various employers and became a maintenance supervisor at Calvin College, where he remained for more than 20 years until his retirement.

To know Michael was to love him. He was a very outgoing person who didn’t meet strangers and was always going to find someone to talk to.

Michael’s radiant smile, rambunctious laugh, and generous spirit were ever present. He loved entertaining family and friends at home and cherished the time he spent with his younger cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was a sports fanatic and a devoted Lakers fan, so much so that he once denounced the Chicago Bulls IN Chicago in front of the Bulls' stadium, the United Center, to a Chicagoan!

He enjoyed participating in church activities, mentoring youth, fishing at his Sandy Pines cottage, and playing cards with family and friends.

Michael traveled extensively around the USA with his wife, with the highlight being the regular trips he and RhaeAnn took to visit their family in Florida.

On August 16, 2026, at the age of 65, Michael peacefully slept into an eternal slumber, rejoining his one true love – his wife, RhaeAnn – along with his parents, siblings, and ancestors who had gone before him. Hallelujah! No more pain or suffering!

He leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness survived by Daughter, Acelia Jones (Jason); Granddaughters, Lydia and Kendra and Great-grandson Divine-Justice; Brother, Willie Booker (Felicia); Sisters, Joyce Harris (Ricky) and Marcia Betts; Aunt Ruby and Uncle James; longtime friend, Jay Wise and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and all that knew and loved him.

His funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at 11 AM at From the Heart Christian Community Church, 1090 36th Street SE with family hour at 10 AM. Friends are invited to visit with Michael’s family on Friday from 4-7 PM at Heritage Life Story Funeral Home- Van Strien Creston Chapel, 1833 Plainfield Ave NE. Interment in Garfield Park Cemetery.
