Donna Marks

Throughout a lifetime filled with laughter and love, Donna Marks held fast to what mattered most through it all. She went above and beyond to care for those around her with humility and empathy, and her solid work ethic was nothing short of inspirational. Donna’s deepest joy was found in her family, and as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and even great-great-grandmother, she considered herself so blessed to watch her family grow and flourish. Her legacy is one of kindness, grace, and unwavering dedication to family. Already so missed, Donna will be forever loved and cherished by those who knew her best.

The late 1930s are remembered as a tumultuous chapter in history all around the world. Tensions in Europe were continuing to escalate, and WWII loomed on the horizon. Here at home in the United States, the Great Depression was still a heavy weight on the shoulders of many Americans. The iconic Disney film Snow White and the Seven Dwarves was released, and swing dancing was wildly popular at the time. It was during this time that Rollin and Winifred (Nagle) Humphrey were thrilled to announce the arrival of a beautiful baby girl. Donna was born in Comstock Park, Michigan, on New Year’s Eve, December 31st, of 1937.

Donna enjoyed a wonderful childhood. She was one of two children in the Humphrey home and was raised alongside her brother, Larry. Throughout her formative years, Donna attended local schools. She lived right down the hill from Comstock Park High School and graduated as a young woman, eager to see what her future held.

Donna’s life was forever changed the moment she met the young man who would forever hold the key to her heart. His name was Stanley Marks, and the two first met while working in the automotive world. It was truly love at first sight. Donna and Stanley were soulmates in every way, and throughout their many years of marriage, they were inseparable. Every day, the couple worked together, then went home together, enjoying every moment spent in each other’s company. Donna and Stanley shared a love for travelling. They took their RV all around the United States, and their trailer on the scenic Muskegon River in Grant was the backdrop for many of their favorite memories.

As all who knew Donna can readily attest, her family was undoubtedly her greatest treasure. She and Stanley were overjoyed to welcome their two daughters, Dianne and Roxanne, into their hearts and home. Donna thrived in her role as a mother, and her kids were her greatest pride and joy. Later in life, Donna was thrilled to become a grandmother to Ryan, Brett, and Michael. She was also able to dote on several great-grandchildren and even great-great-grandchildren. In her recent years, Donna lived off and on with her daughter, Dianne. The two were exceptionally close and were truly the best of friends.

The strength of Donna’s character was an inspiration, and she served as a powerful role model of selflessness, always thinking of others before herself. Although she was so gentle and kind, Donna had a sassy side as well, and she never failed to bring joy to those around her. As her health declined, she continued to be her thoughtful self, making sure to say her final goodbyes. Donna’s family will forever be grateful to the staff at Emmanuel Hospice for the care they provided.

A radiant example of compassion and integrity, Donna Marks lived each and every day to the very fullest. She cared for her loved ones with tenderness and unconditional love, and she was a steadfast source of strength in all circumstances. Donna was the heartbeat of her family, and for the past 26 years, she has looked forward to the moment she could finally be reunited with her dear Stanley. Her sweet smile and warm, welcoming nature will be forever missed. In the years to come, Donna will live on in the many priceless memories we share.

Donna Marks, 88, of Grand Rapids, passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2026. She was born on December 31, 1937, the daughter of Rollin and Winifred (Nagle) Humphrey. She is survived by her daughter: Dianne Jewell; grandchildren: Ryan (Tammy) Markle, Brett (Carrie) Maloley, and Michael (Renee) Tomaszewski; great grandchildren: Chantel (John), Josh, Travis, Nicholas (Samari), Autumn, Cheyenne, Lilly, Olivia, and Charlotte; great great grandchildren: Elizabeth, Westin, McKenna, Levi, and Keoni; sister in-law: Mary Humphrey. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband: Stanley Marks; daughter: Roxanne; and brother: Larry Humphrey. She will be laid to rest next to her husband: Stanley Marks at Plainfield Township Cemetery.
