Cynthia Jean Tumbling, age 66 of Grand Rapids, passed away Friday, February 20, 2026.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Tumbling Sr in 2005. Cynthia is survived by her children James Tumbling Jr and Christine (Dave) Cole; grandchildren Alexander, Jonathan, Jeremiah, Aaron, Abby and Jillian; brother, Joe (Lynn) Kearn; sisters, Caroline Kearn and Cathleen Mileham; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Kathy (Henry) Veenstra, Kristen Tumbling and Bill (Sue) Tumbling; as well as nieces and nephews.
Cynthia was born in Kernsville, California on December 5, 1959. She was the second of four children born to Eugene and Patricia Kearns. She attended Kernsville High School where she participated in the 4H Club and Track and Field. She then enlisted in the Army where she was a radio technician. She met James Tumbling while serving and they married on April 10, 1980. The couple had two children and moved around for a few years before settling in Grand Rapids.
She worked a variety of jobs through the years, spending a lot of time in retail working for KMart and then Home Depot. She particularly enjoyed working in the gardening areas. Eventually, she worked in bookkeeping.
She loved to read - anything she could get her hands on with trips to the library and bookstore. The last sixteen years she has lived with her daughter. A private service will be held at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
