William F. “Bill” Simcek, 90, of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully at Spectrum Healthcare in Grand Rapids on May 29, 2018. Bill was born in Ferndale on May 26, 1928, the son of William and Myrtle Simcek. He was a veteran of the United States Army and proudly served as a medic during the Korean War. After the service, he attended nursing school at Harper Hospital in Detroit. He graduated at the top of his class, one of the first males to receive a degree in nursing. During his nursing career, Bill worked at several hospitals including Harper Hospital, Beaumont Hospital and Little Traverse Hospital in Petoskey. He eventually settled in

Grand Rapids. Bill was a very active member and deacon of his church, Westminster Presbyterian Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Myrtle Simcek, his sister, Eva Simcek, his nephew, Ryan Simcek and his sister-in-law, Barbara Simcek. He is survived by his brother, Roy Simcek of Vanderbilt; niece, Linda Simcek of Vanderbilt; and nephews, Roy Jr. (Christine) Simcek of Jacksonville, FL, Richard (Laurie) Simcek of Vanderbilt and Randy Simeck of Vanderbilt; great nieces and nephews, Caitlin, Douglas, Haley and Dillon.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 8, 2018 at 11:00 AM from Westminster Presbyterian Church, 47, Jefferson Ave., S.E., Grand Rapids MI 49503. Burial will take place at Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Vanderbilt. Memorial contributions may be made to the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Grand Rapids or to the family.
