Life Story / Obituary
All who knew Audrey Gezon will certainly agree that her radiant beauty shone from the goodness of her heart. She was a constant source of strength, no matter the circumstances, and she never let an obstacle hold her back for long. A devoted member of her family, church, and community, Audrey made sure to hold her loved ones close. Her insatiable zest for life could be felt by all around her, and she lived out her unyielding faith each and every day. Deeply missed, Audrey will be forever loved and cherished by those who knew her best.
Born to Alfred and Rosemary (Fehsenfeld) Crum, Audrey was a typical girl of her generation in many ways. She was an older sister to her brother, Tom. The earliest years of Audrey’s childhood were spent in the family home on West River Drive. For a brief time, the Crum family lived with Audrey’s grandmother before settling down in a house on North Avenue. Growing up, Audrey went to local schools and built the foundation of her faith attending Berean Baptist Church with her aunt and uncle. She graduated from Creston High School in 1951, then pursued further education for a few years, eager to see what the future held.
It wasn’t long before Audrey met the young man who would become the love of her life. His name was Edward Gezon, and the two first connected at a wedding. Ed had recently returned from serving overseas in the United States Army. There was an immediate spark between Audrey and Ed. They began dating, falling head over heels in love. With a desire to spend the rest of their lives together, Audrey and Ed were married at Berean Baptist Church on March 13, 1954. The newlyweds then enjoyed a honeymoon in Chicago. Audrey and Ed settled into their first apartment on Turner Street. They lived for a time in an apartment on Alpine before building their first home on Kenan NW in 1957.
Of all the things Audrey loved in life, her family was her greatest treasure. She and Ed were overjoyed to welcome their four children, Susan, Edward Martin Jr., Rose, and Richard, into their hearts and home. Audrey threw herself wholeheartedly into her role as a mother. When her children were young, she dedicated herself to being a full-time homemaker and mom. Once the kids were in school, Audrey began working at Old Kent Bank. No matter what, she was a caring mother, focused on caring for her children and staying involved in their lives. The family would have homemade pizza every Friday night. They often went camping around Michigan, forming countless wonderful memories.
Later on, Audrey was thrilled to see her family grow to include her many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She took every opportunity to spend time with her family. Audrey and Ed enjoyed trips to Florida to reconnect with family and traveled to Hawaii for their 35th wedding anniversary. They also went to the Coast Guard Festival in Grand Haven every year. The Gezons were longtime members of Westend Church, and Audrey was always ready to volunteer. She counted the money every Monday, and she loved sending cards to other members of the church family. As an involved member of her community, Audrey made west side BBQ for elementary school.
In her free time, Audrey enjoyed participating in her knitting and sewing groups. Her favorite music included country and Gospel, and she used her musical skills to teach clavinet. Audrey was an excellent cook and was known for her almond cake and chicken. Her elephant collection was among her most prized possessions. Audrey kept a lovely home, always keeping African violets on display.
When reflecting on the life of Audrey Gezon, it is easy to celebrate a woman who cared so deeply and genuinely for those around her. She was a shining example of kindness and compassion, always willing to go above and beyond to serve others. Nothing brought Audrey greater joy than spending time with her friends and family. Her caring heart left an impact on all those around her. Although life will never be the same without Audrey here, she leaves behind a priceless legacy that her loved ones will be proud to carry on in her footsteps.
Mrs. Audrey Gezon, of Grand Rapids, Michigan entered her heavenly home on Saturday December 6, 2025 with her family by her side. She is preceded in death by her husband Edward Gezon Sr., her mother Rosemary Crum and father, Alfred (Thelma) Crum, and daughter in law Pat Gezon. Audrey is survived by her children, Sue (Bob) Gerritsen, Ed Gezon Jr., Rose (Kevin) Seagraves, Dick Gezon (Patti MacOwan); grandchildren, Melissa (Jose) Bolanos, Bob Gerritsen, Kyle (Raelynn) Gezon, Kaitlin (Derek) Johnson, Sam (Matt) Burmania, Jared Seagraves; great grandchildren, Zane Burmania, Rosemary and Jose Bolanos, Caleb Gezon, Roxanne Burmania, and baby Burmania to come; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
