Although he was taken from his loved ones too soon, James Faasse made a significant impact in the lives of those around him. He was loving, kind, and generous with a deep love for his family and friends. James could find the joy in everything, and his love for life was easy to see. He filled his days with the things he treasured while making the most of every moment he was given. Deeply loved, Jim will be forever missed.

The 1960s were a vibrant time in America. This was the decade when we elected the young John F. Kennedy as our 35th President of the United States only to mourn his death a short time later. This was also the decade that witnessed the explosion of rock ’n roll while by the time the 1960s came to an end we were celebrating having put the first man on the moon. It was just as this decade was getting started that Maurice and June (Bolema) Faasse were eagerly anticipating the birth of their new baby as the beauty of summer was unfolding in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in June of 1961. The big day finally arrived on June 2nd when they welcomed the baby boy they named James P. into their hearts and home. He was one of three children as he was raised in the family home on Ecklund, NE, alongside his siblings, Mark and Sandra, during his earliest years. James’ father owned Best Metal products while his mother was a homemaker.

James was involved in a variety of things over the years. Because he was a special needs child, he attended Children's Retreat of Pine Rest. As a family they made countless memories at their cottage on Silver Lake in Rockford. Jim treasured his family, and he always remembered everyone’s birthdays since he absolutely loved giving gifts. He attended Postma Center at Pine Rest, and he also participated in Friendship Ministries at Covenant Christian Reformed Church in Cutlerville. Someone who enjoyed being active, Jim participated in Special Olympics and loved going to Cran Hill Ranch and Michigan Adventure.

For the past twenty years, James had been living at a foster care home for people with special needs. Located on the Pine Rest property, it was a great place for him to live. Jim loved going to Hope Network, going out for something to eat, and going to the mall. His favorite foods included ribs and chicken, and as his family and friends can attest he loved any and all desserts. James enjoyed music and spent many hours listening to records. He loved all music, but he especially liked Christian music, the oldies and rock. He also had quite an extensive CD collection to show for it. He very much enjoyed worshiping at the Postma Center on campus with his Pine Rest family.

All who knew James Faasse would agree that he was such a blessing. He was fully devoted to the people and things he loved, and he always gave everything his all. James was fun-loving and a man of many interests who lived every day to the fullest. He was a man of simple faith with a deep love for God and a daily trust in Jesus his Savior for all his needs. Life will never be the same without him here, but he leaves behind a priceless collection of memories that his loved ones will forever hold near and dear to their hearts.

Mr. James P. Faasse, age 57, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2018. He was preceded in death by his father, Maurice Faasse and is survived by his mother, June Faasse; his siblings Mark and Lynda Faasse and Sandra Daniels as well as numerous nieces, nephews, several aunts and an uncle. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11AM at the Chapel of Seventh Reformed Church, 950 Leonard NW. Friends may meet the family at the Heritage Lifestory Funeral Home, 2120 Lake Michigan Dr NW on Monday from 6-8PM and at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment in Rosedale Memorial Park.
