SCHMID, Henry E.

Grand Rapids, MI

Age 94, passed away peacefully October 5, 2018. Henry was born January 12, 1924 in Germany, to the late Gottlieb & Anna (Betz) Schmid. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary; siblings, Gary Van Valkenburg & Mary Longfield; and grandson, Dustin Schmid. Henry was a veteran of the US Army serving in Germany during WWII and a member of Taxpayers Organization. He loved to play cribbage, golf, bowl and he was an accomplished checker player. Above all, he was supportive of his family. Henry is survived by his sons, Randy Schmid & Mark Schmid both of Grand Rapids; grandchildren, Mark Jr., Amanda, Chad, Brandon, Brad, Helen, & Hanna; 9 great grandchildren; step children, Marlene Longberg of Grand Rapids & Robert (Dora) Hahn of Hudsonville. Also surviving are siblings, Eugene Schmid of Grand Rapids, William Honderd of Grandville, Ruth (David) Sherman of Jenison, & Eleanor Joldersma of Wyoming; and many nieces & nephews. Friends may visit with family Wednesday Oct. 10 from 12-2 PM at Heritage Life Story Funeral Home, 1833 Plainfield Ave NE. Burial with full military honors will be held at 2:30 PM at Fairplains Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to StopTB.org. www.lifestorynet.com
