Life Story / Obituary
All who knew and loved Adam Urasinski can surely attest to the strength of his character and the vibrancy of his life. With an outgoing personality and an irresistible dose of charisma, he made friends wherever he went. There was nothing that brought Adam greater joy than spending time with his family and friends, and he savored each and every moment he got to hold his loved ones close. His determination and grit carried him through all the ups and downs of life, and he faced every challenge with a smile and an unwavering spirit of positivity. Already so dearly missed, Adam will be forever loved by those who knew him best.
The early 1950s ushered in an era of healing for the world. Even though WWII had ended several years before in 1945, many living in Europe still found themselves working to recover from the devastation left behind. However, Thadeous and Antonina (Urbanczyk) Urasinski, a young couple living in Bielsko-Biala, Poland, had much to celebrate as they welcomed a baby boy into their hearts and home. Born on June 6th of 1950, Adam Antoni joined his two older sisters, Janina and Maria, in the Urasinski household.
In most ways, young Adam grew up as a typical boy of his generation. He was raised in the family home in a town called Katowice located in Southern Poland. Adam’s father worked as an administrator for the Polish rail system while his mother tended to the family as a dedicated homemaker. Some of Adam’s favorite memories from his childhood included summer trips to the Baltic seashore, where he may have discovered his love for jumping into frigid water! Throughout his formative years, Adam attended local Catholic schools. In the first grade, he got so angry with a priest that he kicked him in the shin! Adam enjoyed his school experience and excelled in geography. He often liked playing soccer and ice hockey. Adam went on to pursue further education and graduated from Krakow University with a degree in animal husbandry, eager to see what the future held.
As a young man, Adam’s path took an unexpected turn when he was conscripted into the Polish military. He chose to leave Poland and his home behind, staying in Vienna, Austria, for the next 18 months. In 1979, Adam immigrated to the United States. He traveled to Washington, D.C., then to Brooklyn in New York before eventually settling down in Nunica, Michigan.
Exciting changes were in store for Adam as he met the woman who would soon become the love of his life. Her name was Judy, and the two first met through Judy’s sister and Adam’s coworker, Christine. At the time, Adam and Chris were working together on a large pig farm in Nunica while Judy was employed at a small manufacturing business in Coopersville. Sparks flew when Adam and Judy were first introduced, and over the next five years of dating, their relationship blossomed.
With a desire to spend the rest of their lives together, the couple was united in marriage in Kentwood on September 12, 1986. The newlyweds delayed their honeymoon so that Adam could finally be sworn in as a citizen of the United States. Four days later, Adam and Judy were off on an adventure to Niagara Falls and Toronto in Canada. They settled down in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to step into their future as husband and wife. For the first few years of their marriage, Adam was in charge of managing a large turkey farm. He then began working as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service, a position he would hold until he later retired.
In his spare time, Adam was a voracious reader of novels from his favorite authors, James Michener and Stephen King. He loved listening to a huge range of music, from country to pop. Although he would eat anything, his favorites were seafood and any ethnic dish, and he enjoyed cooking on the grill. Adam liked watching The Office, as well as any Gordon Ramsay cooking show. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears and his Michigan teams, and he was quite the runner himself.
As soon as Adam and Judy were married, they began going on adventures together. Over the years, they traveled all around the world, to many beautiful locations in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, the Carribean, and Europe. Adam loved seeing the world and experiencing tastes of local life. A lifelong learner of languages, he was fluent in Polish, English, German, and Russian, and he later taught himself Spanish and French, just for fun. Adam’s most prized possession was always his United States citizenship.
Kindhearted, hardworking, and devoted to those he loved, Adam Urasinski truly lived each day to the very fullest. He was a constant source of strength and encouragement, and he was never afraid to chase after his dreams. A beloved husband, brother, and uncle, Adam’s family was the steadfast focus of his life. His generosity and compassion has left an unforgettable impact on so many, and his legacy is one of deep integrity. Gone too soon, Adam leaves behind a precious collection of memories for his loved ones to cherish in the years to come.
Adam A. Urasinski age 76, of Grand Rapids, passed away unexpectedly on September 14, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thedeous and Antonina Urasinskii; and In-laws, Robert and Donna Miller.
